Kettle Donations Go High Tech

If you haven’t passed by a Salvation Army red kettle and the accompanying bell ringers yet, you soon will. Look closely…many of those red kettles now have debit card readers attached. Clever.

These electronic fund gatherers are perfect for shoppers who carry debit cards and no cash. You can donate with a simple swipe of your debit card, almost without missing a step as you walk into the store.

It seems the Salvation Army did some research and found that while the 20-something crowd is very generous, these shoppers rarely carry cash. By adding the debit cardreader, kettles get 7 times the donations.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Christmas campaign provides food, toys and clothing to more than 6 million people during Christmas. Want to know more about it? Check is out at the website http://www.ringbells.org.
