U.S. consumers generally enjoy quality food at affordable prices most of the year, and it’s especially apparent for Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, the average price of a basic Thanksgiving feast is now at its lowest level since 2010, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 33rd annual survey on holiday food prices. If you’re gathering a crowd of 10 around your table, it will cost $48.90 for the typical feast. That’s less than $5 per person, and plenty for leftovers.
How can that happen, considering food costs are on the upswing? Well thanks to ample supplies, turkeys cost slightly less than last year – $21.71 for a 16-pound bird.
Farm Bureau collects grocery prices for this survey via 166 volunteer shoppers in 37 states. The shoppers look for the best prices, without using special promotions like getting a free turkey for spending $50.
